Dyer Debacle: Where's the outrage?

It was bad enough that practically no one in the Florida Democratic Party voiced their disgust and outrage regarding the witch hunt of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. But now that this frivilous prosecution is behind us, the Democrats are willing to just let this abuse of power go unchecked. This is just another example of Florida Democrats having no backbone and failing to stand up for what is right.

This politically-driven prosecution was overseen by Republican State Attorney Brad King, who was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush. Legal experts from around the state have voiced their disbelief over the indictment of Mayor Dyer, Circuit Court Judge Alan Apte, Dyer campaign manager Patti Sharp, and African-American outreach coordinator Ezzie Thomas. The original sponsor of the law that Dyer and others were accused of violating stated that King was misinterpretting the law. Still, the silence from the state party and Democrats in the Florida Legislature was absolutely deafening.

Now that the legal wrangling is behind Dyer, the Democrats are quick to pat themselves on the back and declare victory. Victory for what? The Republicans, with Governor Bush pulling the strings, manipulated the system and used the state's judicial system for their own political gain. Democrats, on behalf of all Florida citizens, should be outraged and demand that those who abused their power be held accountable. The Democrats need to stop running scared everytime the Republicans play hardball.

Why didn't the party speak up?

Quite simple.... Scott Maddox called Buddy Dyer the day after he was suspended and to this date, Dyer NEVER CALLED Maddox back. How can a member of the party, especially as Chairman, speak out on the issue if he doesn't know what's going on. He tried to find out but Dyer refused to call him back and thus, no statement.

If Dyer doesn't even care to call his Chairman back, then the party can let him handle his problems.

I know this because as a member of the Leon County Democratic Executive Committee, for which Scott is chair, he told all of us this.

So don't blame the party; blame Dyer. But I am happy he got his job back.

That's a weak excuse.

You know this because Scott Maddox told you?

Did it ever enter your mind that maybe he was BS'ing to cover his tail?

I am not saying this is the case, but since when do politicians not BS people? Besides, action speaks louder than words, and so far there has been little of both from Mr. Maddox.

I posted this in response to an earlier post, but it's relevant here as well.

An unreturned telephone call is a silly excuse for poor performance by a party chairman. Maybe Dyer didn't get the message. Maybe Maddox should have called again. Either way, there's no reason that the leader of the state party can't speak out against the abuse of power by Jeb and the boys whether or not Maddox and Dyer spoke. The lack of ANY response by the party is absurd.

Some Democrats aren't fans of Dyer so I don't care that Maddox didn't respond.

Besides, how can a party respond on a criminal investigation when it knew none of the details?

What happened if the party spoke out and then a week later was shown as being wrong? It would be egg in the face.

Besides, Dyer probably won't win re-election and thus, why bother with him.
