Dyer Witch Hunt Ends

As reported by the Orlando Sentinel, Governor Jeb Bush's hand selected special prosecutor, fellow Republican and State Attorney Brad King, who oversaw the election prosecutions in Orlando, has decided to dismiss all charges against Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and others.

Mayor Dyer, Circuit Court Judge Alan Apte, Dyer campaign manager Patti Sharp, and African-American outreach coordinator Ezzie Thomas were indicted last month for allegedly violating a state law that prohibits payments for the collection of absentee ballots. Many experts, Republicans and Democrats alike, agreed that Mr. King was misinterpreting the statute and that the law was inappropriately being applied to Mayor Dyer. Even the original sponsor the bill, former Republican Senator Jack Latvala has disagreed with the charges and felt that Mayor Dyer should be reinstated.

Governor Bush has immediately issued an Executive Order of Reinstatement, returning Mayor Dyer to his rightful place in the Orlando City Hall.

I read the quote by former Democratic Party chairman Bob Poe speaking up for Buddy Dyer. Good for him. Where was the current chairman? Is he still upset because Buddy beat him in the 2002 election? If you're the chairman, you need to be able to put aside your own personal feelings and do what is best for the party. Unfortunately, the current Democratic chairman can't do that. I wish he'd just resign and run for governor already.

Why didn't the party speak up?

Quite simple.... Scott Maddox called Buddy Dyer the day after he was suspended and to this date, Dyer NEVER CALLED Maddox back. How can a member of the party, especially as Chairman, speak out on the issue if he doesn't know what's going on. He tried to find out but Dyer refused to call him back and thus, no statement.

If Dyer doesn't even care to call his Chairman back, then the party can let him handle his problems.

I know this because as a member of the Leon County Democratic Executive Committee, for which Scott is chair, he told all of us this.

So don't blame the party; blame Dyer. But I am happy he got his job back.

That's a silly excuse for poor performance by a party chairman. Maybe Scott should have swallowed a little pride and made a second phone call? Maybe Buddy didn't get the first one? And there's no reason that the leader of the state party can't speak out against the abuse of power by Jeb and the boys whether or not Maddox and Dyer spoke. The fact is that Florida Democrats are in bad shape and it's apparently not getting better.
